We are pleased to announce solo exhibition of Fuco Ueda.
Fuko Ueda is the foremost fantasy painter of Japan. She paints a fragile world as if touching a dream. In the depth of Fuko’s world, as if flirted with by flooding images, there exists a classroom at school, a flower garden full of large chrysanthemums, or a mysterious deep sea, where little girls dominate the situation, playing as if floating.
This time the work is titled “The Realm of a Dream.” It is not a concrete situation. It is as if we stepped into the farthest depth of a dream where light and shadow were reversed.

The realm of a dream is like a stranger you cannot interact with. You may feel you have caught it, but it slips away through your fingers.
The kind of feeling that you could not rely on anyone or anything which you may feel when you confront uncertainty and ambiguity of existence I continue to trace the outline of that feeling with a brush.

上田風子は日本を代表する幻想画家で、夢に触れるようなもろく壊れやすい世界を描いています。
イメージの氾濫に翻弄されるような深い風子ワールドでは、学校の教室や、大輪の菊の花畑、あるいは謎に満ちた深海などのシチュエーションを少女達が支配し、奇妙な浮遊感の中で戯れています。
今回は「夢の領域」と題し、具体的なシチュエーションの中ではなく、光と影が逆転するような夢の奥へとさらに足を踏み入れているような世界観を表現いたします。

夢の領域は決して交わる事のできない他者のようなもので、掴んだと思ってもするりと指の間をすり抜けてしまいます。
存在の不確かさや曖昧さと対峙したときの寄る辺のなさ、その輪郭を筆でそっとなぞり続けています。
