GALLERY KOGURE is pleased to present Hiroko Nagao’s first solo exhibition at our gallery.

Her drawings are created with precise control of the pen, using lines and stippling to construct complex and distinctive imagery. Her works are characterized by recurring patterns and long strands of hair that extend across the surface, at times resembling organic growth. These elements often appear to spread compulsively, yet each piece maintains a sense of structure and narrative.

Whether large or small in scale, the works convey a striking balance between fragility and stability, leaving a strong visual impression.

The foundation of Nagao’s imagery lies in a mermaid doll she treasured during her childhood. Since then, she has continued to explore the figure of the mermaid and the female form in pursuit of her personal ideal.

This exhibition, titled “Mermaid Collection,” focuses on recent works and showcases the unique visual language Nagao has developed through this long-term theme.
