In Kanazawa Mercury Cave, GALLERY KOGURE will hold a solo show titled “SIDE VIEW” by Kashinori Omori (b. 1990~).

Omori has been materializing the sense of scale surrounding himself and the world through objects made of metal steel materials (processed steel plates into sheets or rods), as well as through prototypes assembled from plastic model parts or bronze sculptures cast from plastic model kits. In this second exhibition in Kanazawa, following the relationship between overhead views and scale presented in the previous exhibition “OVERHEAD YARD,” Omori will focus on the “side view” of sculptures and motifs. The exhibition will mainly feature metal works that Omori has conceptualized, as well as bronze works created around shared motifs.

Throughout his work using metal steel materials, Omori has consistently employed the “container” as a motif. Containers, seamlessly used in both maritime and land transportation, can be seen as symbols or norms that standardize the current world. These containers, constantly moving and circulating around us day and night, sometimes stacked in the corners of landscapes, have provided Omori with a great deal of inspiration. Observing the side view of containers, which present an impressive contrast between their two-dimentional static structures made of metal steel and the press processing that imparts strength, including painted corporate logos and numbering or stickers attached as sheets, Omori views them as “artworks created by the world itself, without the presence of an artist.” The various symbols and languages arranged standardized or arbitrarily, give rise to a sense of reality that differs from the artist’s perspective on art creation. This aspect has continuously captivated Omori’s interest, not only as a sculptor but also as a plastic modeler.

In this exhibition, Omori will present new works that extract the most distinctive “side view” of the motif. These works recreate the “the side view of reality” deliberately in a different scale from the actual size. We invite you to come and see these innovative creations at Kanazawa Mercury Cave.
