In the Kanazawa Mercury Cave, an exhibition featuring the artist neuronoa will be held, centered around the concept of the “information society.” The artist creates abstract paintings inspired by prominent figures such as musicians and actors. neuronoa, who initially engaged in activities as a creator producing music, design, and visual content while wandering through over 30 countries, transitioned to full-fledged artistic pursuits from 2021 onwards. The exhibition titled “Ephemeral” aims to explore the inner beauty and truth that we seek while living in the information society.

This exhibition showcases portraits inspired by societal icons like actors and musicians, symbolizing the facets of the information society. Their expressions are obscured by layers of abundant paint, rendering not only their expressions but even their outlines indiscernible. The overlaid paint serves as a metaphor for information, obscuring the visual cues crucial to the identification of these celebrities. Through multiple iterations of this process, a distinct set of information emerges, distinct from the original. It suggests the inundation of existence by information floods, where the contours of the physical body become ambiguous, and identity transitions into an abstract existence. This hints at prompting the viewer to reevaluate their own identity, navigating through imagination, emotional fluctuations, and liberated thoughts while groping to reassess themselves.

neuronoa raises the question of “what true identity means in the information society” through the abstraction that renders the subjects’ expressions unreadable. Set in Kanazawa, a city dedicated to the pursuit of historical and cultural essence, this exhibition might deepen our exploration of identity within the information society and our existence within fleeting moments.

The exhibition’s title, “Ephemeral,” carries the meanings of transience and fleetingness. By delineating the boundary between beauty and transience, existence and disappearance, this exhibition will serve as a catalyst for exploring our inner beauty and truth.

After traveling the world and engaging in creative endeavors focused on producing visual content, the individual commenced full-fledged artist activities in 2021. neuronoa created abstract paintings inspired by prominent figures such as musicians and actors, revolving around the concept of the “information society.” Through expression abstracted to the extent where the subjects’ facial expressions become unreadable, they probe into the question of “what true identity means in the information society.”

Beyond the confines of art, this individual actively participates in diverse projects spanning various genres both domestically and internationally. Some notable collaborations include partnerships with the apparel brand “HARE” and the art supply manufacturer “LIQUITEX.” With an unwavering desire for the audience to focus solely on the artwork, details such as nationality, gender, age, and personal identity remain consistently undisclosed.
