Starting on Friday, May 31st, we are hosting the group exhibition “Underground Manga Museum” Curated by Kyoto-based artist Tomohiro Takagi, this exhibition explores the relationship between art and manga. Today, manga is a ubiquitous presence, overflowing with various forms of expression. Its origins trace back to ancient times when pictorial narratives such as bird, beast, and human caricatures, as well as depictions of the life of Jesus, were conveyed through sequential developments in art forms like painting, sculpture, and stained glass. Many of these have since gained significant artistic value, eventually becoming distinct from the genre of manga. In this exhibition, we focus on the intriguing relationship between art and manga. We aim to reintegrate art and manga, pursuing a more liberating and stimulating expression that transcends genres.
